The heritage city of Bath still evokes Jane Austen’s literature while you will get close and personal with William Shakespeare’s writings at his birthplace in Stratford upon Avon or get into the role of the Downton Abbey characters at Highclere castle. Take home with you, memories of warm welcomes, modern cuisine and a vibrant and familiar culture that reaches across both time and continents.
Day 1 London
Your driver will meet you on arrival at London Heathrow and transfer you by private limousine to your central London hotel in the fashionable Kensington area. You will have the rest of the day at leisure to relax and refresh.
Day 2 London
Your full Royal tour day with your private guide starts with a visit to HM Queen Elizabeth’s London home, Buckingham Palace followed by an afternoon tour of her Royal castle at Windsor – the largest inhabited castle in Europe.
Option in the evening to take in any of the 30+ London West End theater shows
Day 3 Downton Abbey – Lacock – Bath
After breakfast in your hotel your driver will pick you up for your tour to Highclere Castle for the start of your Downton Abbey experience. Your day continues with a walk in the mystical 5000-year-old Avebury Stone Circle, one of the most impressive megalithic monuments in Europe, followed by a tour of Avenbury Manor. The day finishes with a walk along the idyllic cobbled streets of Lacock, an idyllic village frozen in the 18th century (used in the filming of Pride and Prejudice and Harry Potter) before checking into your Bath city center hotel.
Day 4 Bath
Your guide will meet you at your hotel for a half day walking tour of this heritage city which will include a visit to the 2000-year-old Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and the National Fashion Museum. Afternoon at leisure to explore the boutiques and artisan shops.
Day 5 Cotswolds – Stratford upon Avon
Today’s private driver guided tour transports you to the fictitious Downton village of Bampton where most of Downton Abbey’s outdoor scenes are filmed. Bampton Library and Church View were used for exterior shots of Downton Cottage Hospital. Afterwards, you will journey to the quintessentially English village of Swinbrook; the set-location for Lady Sybil’s elopement with the family chauffeur, Branson, one of the key and most controversial story-lines of Downton’s Second Season. Your afternoon tour will take you through the classically beautiful Cotswolds villages to Shakespeare’s home town of Stratford upon Avon. Option to see Shakespeare play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
After to tour of William Shakespeare’s birthplace, your driver will collect you for a guided walking tour of Oxford. The beauty of the city’s colleges and riverside setting, literary links and stunning film and TV locations, shops with local character combine to give historic Oxford its alluring, vibrant and cosmopolitan buzz. In the afternoon, your driver will take you to Waddesdon Manor, a Rothschild mansion steeped in exceptional architecture, art collections and wonderful gardens. The house stood in for the exterior of the fictional Haxby Park in the second season of Downton Abbey when Mary and Sir Richard intend to marry. Return to London
