Spend 10 days in the beautiful ‘Mother City’ of Cape Town, exploring the sights and wildlife of the Peninsula, and some surprises further afield.

Settle into your hotel, then set out along Millionaire’s Paradise, the road known for some of South Africa’s most glamorous and impressive homes. The route takes you to Hout Bay, from which you can go in for a closer look at Seal Island if you wish. Take in the views of Chapman’s Peak Drive as you weave your way to the Cape of Good Hope, where the Boulders Beach penguin colony gives you a feathered welcome. Cap off your day with a visit to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a bona fide highlight of the Cape.

The region’s lesser (though increasingly!) known delight is wine. Spend a day exploring the winelands, where some of the world’s finest vintages are grown on the slopes of a jaw-droppingly beautiful corner of South Africa. Then, if Cape Town has a heart, you’ll find it on the fascinating Walk to Freedom Tour, which spends a full day taking you through apartheid’s effects on the city. Visit the Langa Township, and Robben Island, home to the infamous prison that once housed Nelson Mandela. It’s a day that’s both sobering, and inspirational, as you discover the stories and trials of this era.

Whoever said ‘you can’t safari from Cape Town’ didn’t go very far out of the city. You’re about to do exactly that, visiting the Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve, where a 4 x 4 safari takes you in search of all the most popular game, including the Big 5 – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and African Buffalo, all of which can be spotted in the Reserve.

With the big Cape Town experiences ticked off your list, spend one final day picking up any other sights that interest you with a Hop-on Hop-off Bus ticket. Its stops include the base of the Table Mountain Cable Car, so you can take in Cape Town’s most iconic view if you wish, before enjoying a spectacular and uniquely South African dinner show. Your final day is spent entirely at leisure for one last Cape Town adventure. Consider a day’s whale watching, or steel your nerves for a cage dive with majestic Great White Sharks.
