Day 1

We meet the group and get to know each other in Hanoi today. Tonight, we’ll dine at KOTO restaurant – a social enterprise that gives disadvantaged young people the chance to learn new skills. (D)

Day 2

Start the day with an optional walking tour. Our first stop is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where we’ll discover more about the man who led the movement for Vietnamese independence. Next, we visit the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature, which was built in 1070. This afternoon, your guide will lead you through the streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter to learn about the area’s French colonial architecture. Later, we’re off to the the home of a water puppet artist to see how these traditional wooden figures are made – and of course, to watch them in action. (B,L)

Day 3

Keep your cameras at the ready as we roll through lush rural scenery on the way to beautiful Halong Bay. Later, we’ll board the Emeraude and cruise past the vast limestone karsts en route to Sung Sot Grotto, also called Surprise Cave. Tonight, it’s time to roll up your sleeves for a Vietnamese cooking class and demonstration before settling down to watch Indochine on the Sundeck. We’ll spend the night on our vessel in the scenic bay. (B,L,D)

Day 4

Wake with the sun and enjoy coffee, tea and cookies on board as the horizon brightens. If the mood takes you, you can even try a spot of tai chi. We’re off to the airport later today to begin the journey to Hoi An, with a stop off at Danang (where we can buy lunch) on the way. (B)

Day 5

This morning we’ll take a guided tour around Hoi An’s Old Town (with a leisurely break at the Reaching Out Tea House) before transferring to Cam Thanh, where we’ll have the opportunity to meet the locals and sip on a coconut or two. Then, we’ll take to the water for a basket boat ride back to Hoi An, where we’ll toast the end the day with cocktails. (B,L)

Day 6

We rise early for breakfast, then the morning is yours to spend as you please. This afternoon we bid farewell to Hoi An and head to the airport, where we’ll catch a flight to Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam’s largest city. (B)

Day 7

We start the day with a visit to a local fruit market, where we’ll mingle with the locals as we browse the exotic produce. Then, we’ll see the city in style as we hop on a traditional Vietnamese mode of transport – cyclos – on a tour of China Town, followed by lunch at the Mandarine Restaurant, where a cooking demonstration awaits. After an afternoon of free time, we’ll celebrate our final evening together with a farewell dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 8

Sit down to one final breakfast with your fellow Vietnam Adventurers before the tour ends, with transfer to the airport included. (B)
