The collaborative public-private initiative seeks to enhance travel speed and security at World Cup tournament host airports nationwide without taxpayer expense
The digital identity security company Clear, has announced the implementation of biometric “eGate” technology to help upgrade America’s aviation infrastructure in advance of the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament. The automated eGate systems are engineered to deliver a scalable, secure approach to accelerate passenger processing while strengthening security protocols.
CLEAR’s eGate performs biometric authentication, comparing a passenger’s live facial image against their identification document and boarding pass. The TSA will maintain full operational authority: activating gate entry, performing security screening, and implementing government security protocols. CLEAR provides only essential data (live photograph, boarding pass, ID image used for registration, and identity details) and will not physically operate gates. After identity and authorization are validated, passengers advance directly to physical inspection, circumventing the TSA station while completing all required security procedures.
The technology is meant to complement the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) ongoing initiatives to modernize security operations at U.S. airports, with particular emphasis on bolstering security measures, hospitality standards, and passenger satisfaction. Over 20 million international tourists are anticipated to travel to the U.S. for the World Cup — alongside increased domestic travel through U.S. host cities — indicating checkpoint facilities will encounter extraordinary demand.
Beginning in August 2025, eGate systems will be introduced at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA), and Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA), with CLEAR intending to broaden the eGate deployment throughout its national airport network in advance of the World Cup, America’s 250th anniversary festivities, and ongoing expansion in domestic aviation.
“We take pride in contributing to making America’s airports exceptional in advance of the World Cup. The United States should set the standard for security, hospitality, and travel experience,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker. “This collaboration with TSA demonstrates how public and private organizations can unite to strengthen security and enhance the aviation infrastructure. CLEAR is funding this technology without taxpayer expense to upgrade our checkpoints and guarantee America’s airports are prepared to exceed international standards. CLEAR’s secure identity platform will facilitate an improved, safer, and more seamless experience for every traveler.”
