Panama is located in the middle of countries with such natural wonders that it can be difficult to choose just one. Yet, Panama has its own charm with rich cultures and diverse landscapes. Being bordered by the ocean on two sides, it has beaches galore. From the modern skyline of Panama City to the biodiversity of wildlife at Bocas del Toro, to the highlands of Boquete, Panama is packed with chances for a true Central American experience.
Panama City
Home to one of the tallest buildings in Latin America, the F&F Tower, Panama City climbs into the modern age with its skyline. Known primarily for being near the Panama Canal, there are many other opportunities to explore the city. Culinary delights await the traveler who explores the gastronomy scene, including influences of African, Spanish, and Indigenous cultures. The historic district of Casco Viejo (aka. Casco Antiguo) remains one of the most visited sites in the city. Dating back to the 17th century, this multicultural area is filled with art galleries, boutique hotels, stylish restaurants, and trendy bars.
Bocas del Toro
Northwest of mainland Panama is the archipelago of Bocas del Toro. Nine islands make up this archipelago: Cayos Zapatilla, Isla Colón, Isla Bastimentos, Isla Carenero, Isla Escudo de Veraguas, Isla Cristóbal, Isla Cayo Agua, Isla Popa, and Isla Solarte. Each island is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and its turquoise waters. Isla Colón is the main island and features shops, restaurants, and accommodations. Yet, all of them feature aquatic adventures like diving and snorkeling in crystal clear water to colorful reefs, while encountering dolphins, sea turtles, and other marine life along the way. Ecotourism is at the paradisiacal heart of Bocas Del Toro, travelers will also hike and zipline their way through a forest full of ecological diversity.
Boquete
Situated about 3,900 ft above sea level, Boquete is a charming town in the mountains of Panama. Lush green mountains are a panoramic view from the city, with its pleasant year-round temperatures (cool with low humidity). Lovers of nature and the outdoors will enjoy the waterfalls and peaks while hiking. Boquete is a calm town known for coffee crops, which make for excellent tasting sessions with fresh-grown local flavors of Arabica coffee. A break from the heat of beaches, or the business of the city, Boquete is a chance to be immersed in the local culture, explore, and relax in simple pleasures.
